    Based on the College of Law’s primary curriculum needs we are especially interested in candidates with teaching, scholarship and research interests in the subject-matter areas of Constitutional Law, Civil Procedure, Criminal Law and Procedure, Evidence, Professional Responsibility, Property, Torts, Wills and Trusts, as well as Appellate Advocacy Clinic and Tax Clinic.

    Start date: January 2023 and August 2023


    Job Qualifications: Successful applicants will hold a J.D. or equivalent terminal degree, a strong academic profile, and record or promise as a teacher. Candidates with a strong publication and research record or documented interest are highly preferred.

    THE UNIVERSITY OF ILLINOIS COLLEGE OF LAW seeks a dynamic and accomplished legal practitioner to develop and direct a new clinic in First Amendment law. The clinic, supported by a generous grant from the Stanton Foundation, will focus on rights of speech, press, and assembly, and involve direct representation of parties in litigation. Responsibilities will include leadership of the clinic, management of the clinic’s caseload, supervision of students and a clinical fellow, and delivery of relevant course instruction. Applicants must have a J.D., be licensed in Illinois within one year of hire, have substantial experience as a practicing lawyer, and have experience or a strong interest in teaching, mentoring and supervising law students.

    THE UNIVERSITY OF HOUSTON LAW CENTER (UHLC) invites applications for a promotion-eligible, non-tenure track clinical assistant/associate professor position and Director of the Immigration Clinic for the academic year 2023-2024.  The contract is for nine months, 9/1/2023 to 5/31/2024, the "FY 24 Contract," beginning when classes start in late August 2023 and continuing through the middle of May 2024. 

    The Immigration Clinic handles all types of family‐based and humanitarian cases, with emphasis on asylum, withholding of removal, and Convention Against Torture cases, in addition to other violence‐related claims, such as Violence Against Women’s Act, Special Immigrant Juvenile cases, humanitarian parole, and crime victims (U visas). The clinic also handles T visas, and has helped in a variety of Crimmigration cases where the respondents were detained in U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention and needed a habeas petition in federal district court.

    The Immigration Clinic has a classroom component that meets for two hours a week for 14 weeks over the course of the semester.  The classroom component focuses on teaching advocacy skills and substantive immigration law to equip students to represent immigrants before the Department of Homeland Security, Department of Justice's Executive Office for Immigration Review and other federal agencies.

    The position will cover the classroom component of the clinical instruction and the case supervision component. The position will also supervise at least two staff attorneys and manage grants that fund the clinic’s work.

    The non-tenure track appointment will have a one-year probationary contract period with no presumption of renewal. However, based upon continued positive evaluations of the appointee, the position may lead to additional annual contract periods followed by a presumptively renewable multi-year contract.  The initial salary range for this position is expected to be approximately $80,000 for a nine-month academic year for the Assistant level.  Candidates with sufficient direct experience for hiring at the Associate level will be considered for salary commensurate with experience and UHLC salaries for these positions. Subject to generally applicable policies at UHLC, this promotion eligible NTT faculty position is eligible to receive an annual allotment for travel and professional development and eligible to participate in a summer research program which awards funds to faculty to support their scholarship. An attorney appointed to the position must, at a minimum, hold a J.D. degree from an ABA-accredited law school. As an NTT position, the appointee will accrue no time toward tenure at the University of Houston.

    Tribal Law Clinic

    The University of Idaho College of Law seeks to hire a tenure-track or tenured faculty member to direct a Tribal Law Clinic, at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor, depending on experience. The faculty member will have wide latitude to work with local, regional, and/or national tribal communities and organizations to shape the vision, focus, and pedagogical direction of the clinic. Possible clinic focuses include tribal economic development, tribal family mediation, tribal governance, tribal courts, or tribal natural resources. The faculty member will coordinate with the UI Native American Law (“NAL”) Program Director to ensure broad programmatic support of the clinic, share leadership roles in other NAL Program projects, and advance NAL Program strategic goals. In addition to supervising clinic students, the faculty member will teach an additional course in a related subject, mentor and advise students, and develop a scholarly, outreach, and engagement agenda. This position is located in Moscow, situated on the homelands of the Nimiipuu (Nez Perce), Palus (Palouse) and Schitsu’umsh (Coeur d’Alene) tribes, and near the Nez Perce Reservation (to the south) and Coeur d’Alene Reservation (to the north).     Agricultural Law

    The University of Idaho College of Law and Department of Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology seek a tenure-track Agricultural Law faculty member beginning Fall 2023, with a tenure home in the College of Law. Entry-level and experienced candidates are encouraged to apply. The faculty member would teach an Agricultural Law course, one additional course in the College of Law in a related field, and one course in the Department of Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology. Candidates must have a: (1) J.D. from an ABA-accredited school or equivalent; (2) M.S. in Agricultural Economics, Economics, or closely-related field; or five years professional experience in business, agribusiness, or related field that requires expertise in and knowledge of advanced concepts and theory in business and economics; (3) record or promise of teaching excellence; (4) record or promise of scholarly excellence; and (5) record or promise of excellence in fostering an inclusive learning environment. Preference will be given to candidates with: (1) a Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics, Economics, or closely-related field; (2) post-J.D. practice, clerking, or teaching experience; (3) demonstrated excellence in economics and agricultural law; (4) demonstrated excellence in water rights, water quality, and/or other specialization related to agricultural law; (5) experience engaging with stakeholder or multidisciplinary groups relevant to research, outreach or policy priorities in the western U.S.; and (6) demonstrated interest in working with multidisciplinary research teams, including seeking grant funding.     Housing Clinic

    The University of Idaho College of Law seeks to hire a tenure-track faculty member to direct a Housing-Related Law Clinic. The successful candidate could be an entry-level Assistant Professor rank on a tenure track, or an Associate or Full Professor rank with tenure, depending on the candidate's qualifications. This position involves directing a housing-related clinic, which could include landlord-tenant, reentry, veterans, or benefits issues. The faculty member must supervise the clinic, teach one additional course on a related subject, mentor and advise students, produce scholarship, and conduct community outreach. Applicants must have a J.D. from an accredited school or the equivalent; a distinguished academic record; five years of post-J.D. practice or clerking experience; active membership in at least one state bar and ability to obtain Idaho State Bar admission as a supervising attorney by November 1, 2023; a record or the promise of teaching and scholarly excellence. Preferred qualifications include more than two years of post-J.D. practice or full-time teaching experience in the law clinic setting and/or serving clients in housing-related matters. This position is located in Boise.
