Harvard Law School - Clinical Instructor - Predatory Lending and Consumer Protection Clinic

19 Aug 2021 4:42 PM | Jeff Baker (Administrator)

HARVARD LAW SCHOOL seeks applications for the Clinical Instructor position in its Predatory Lending and Consumer Protection Clinic.

The Clinical Instructor will play a key role—as teacher, supervisor, mentor, litigator, and strategic partner—in the operation of the Predatory Lending and Consumer Protection Clinic (“the Clinic”) at the Legal Services Center (LSC) of Harvard Law School.  The Clinic—through which Harvard Law students receive hands-on training in lawyering skills—provides free legal representation to low-income consumers in a variety of areas, including mortgage foreclosure defense, debt collection defense, and affirmative litigation.  The Clinic’s docket reflects a mix of individual representation cases, impact litigation, and policy initiatives.  We litigate cases in state and federal court and frequently partner with other leading consumer law organizations.  The Clinical Instructor will work closely with the Clinic Director and will collaborate often with other members of the LSC team.  This position represents a unique opportunity to work in a dynamic public interest and clinical teaching law office and to advocate creatively on behalf of consumers who have been exploited by predatory marketplace actors.

Job-Specific Responsibilities

As a Clinical Instructor you will:

·          teach, train, supervise, and mentor law students,

·          collaborate with the Clinic director, and other members of the LSC team, in developing and updating the Clinic’s curriculum and training materials

·          serve—within the framework of effective clinical pedagogy—as lead counsel or co-counsel in Clinic cases

·          screen cases for merit and pedagogical value while helping to maintain the Clinic’s diverse docket through community and organizational partnerships

·          work with the Clinic Director to engage in short-term and long-term planning for the Clinic and identify strategic opportunities that further the Clinic’s teaching and service missions

·          recruit and supervise summer law interns, as needed

·          contribute to the LSC community and participate in LSC committees and work groups, and support various administrative aspects of the Clinic’s functioning
